Dental Implants: Complete Guide to Process, Duration & Aftercare

May 15, 2026·5 min read

A dental implant is a titanium screw placed into the jawbone, acting as an artificial tooth root. It is the most permanent and natural-looking solution for missing teeth.

Surgical Phase: Takes 30–60 minutes under local anaesthesia. The titanium implant is placed into the jaw. Mild swelling afterwards is normal.

Healing Phase (Osseointegration): Takes 2–6 months. The implant fuses with the bone. A temporary crown may be worn during this period.

Crown Placement: After healing, a permanent zirconia or porcelain crown is fitted. The result looks and feels like a natural tooth.

At Miva Dental, implant surgery is completed in one session. For our international patients from the UK and EU, we plan a 5–7 day programme in İzmir.
